I started out my soap opera watching career with Santa Barbara. Do you remember the Capwells and Lockridges? Eden Capwell and Cruz Castillo? Mason Capwell and Julia Wainwright?
When I was in high school, I used to rush home so that I could watch as much of Santa Barbara as possible before my mother came home from work. She did not approve of soap operas.
Over time I moved from Santa Barbara to the town of Springfield where I became enthralled with the lives and loves of the Spaulding, Lewis and Cooper clans.
In college, I watched Days of our Lives and Another World with my roommate Rebecca and General Hospital with my other roommate Lori. I had to give up Guiding Light because the other Jennifer in the house liked GL and she watched it in her room. I detested her and refused to go be in the same room with her even to watch my beloved Guiding Light.
Maybe if I had continued to watch Guiding Light today wouldn’t be the last episode?
In other news, I had to give in on the cutting board on the counter standoff. Oh yes, it was still there as of last night. But when I took a closer look at it, I discovered that the tomato seeds still on the board were starting to mold. I draw the line at mold on my counter. In my refrigerator on leftovers is one thing, but not on my cutting board.
I rather think that this whole experiment of waiting it out was in vain, because I don’t think Tom even noticed that the cutting board was on the counter all this time.
Oblivious!!

I LOVED Santa Barbara! I still remember the Christmas episode: "Tell them that Santa Cruz is on his way!" Awesome.
I was a big Guiding Light fan, too, until I had to get a real job and wasn't home to watch anymore. It's sad that it's ending, but the last time I watched it, it seemed they were telling the same stories over again. The characters were just a little older with a few marriages behind them. :)
I never cared for Guiding Light and especially after they went to that weird way of taping - reality style?
But I LOVED SANTA BARBARA!!! Some fantastic stars who are still great soap stars got their start on Santa Barbara.
Alexis on General Hospital (Julia Wainwright)
Robin Wright - yes that would be the same Robin Wright Penn
The father on One Tree Hill was a teenager on Santa Barbara.
The list goes on and on.
Thanks for reminding me of oldies, but goodies.
