Tom bought the first season of Miami on DVD for his birthday. We have been watching an episode a night. I didn't watch Miami Vice when it originally aired so this is all new to me.
The first episode was so painful to watch. The acting was so stiff and the dialogue was dreadful. But the music choices were fantastic.
As I watch more and more episodes I am digging Philip Michael Thomas. He never misses an opportunity to bare his chest (and a fine chest it is).
But it the 80's fashions that are the best! and the hair and makeup!!! Never have I seen so many men wearing white shoes!! And Crockett's never ending supply of pastel muscle shirts.
I told my friend that I was wating for the acting to get better, she told me to keep waiting.
I can't wait for season two to come out on DVD.

white hairs
today my sharp-eyed coworker spotted some white hairs upon my head.
at first i was in denial. i'm too young to have gray hair. i tried to convince myself that it was just a very, very blonde hair. but the truth is....it was white.
this will take some getting used to.
bear with me.

root canal
Yesterday I went to the dentist regarding my miserable toothache. The dentist, Dr. Duryea told me that theh pain I was feeling was nerve pain and the best thing to do was to have a root canal. So I girded up my loins and agreed to it. Two hours later my mouth was numb but the tooth was repaired. The decay was very bad. The dental assistant told me it was one of the worst she had ever smelled. That's right....smelled. You could smell the decay when the dentist drilled into the tooth.
This was the third root canal I've had since May. Obviously I did not take good care of my teeth. So now I'm waiting for the dental insurance to kick in so that I can get crowns. And then I'll be done. and very poor. I've spent thousands of dollars on my teeth. And to think I could have had the whole interior of the house painted instead!!!!

toothache
Since Friday I've been suffering from the toothache. I have invested so much money in my teeth already, part of me wants to just suffer through it and have Tom get out his pliers and yank it out for me.
I still have one more crown to install and yet ANOTHER root canal. That would make a total of three root canals since May.
My dentist can afford a three week vacation in the Bahamas for what I have paid for all of my dental work.
I am subsisting on all thing mushy so that I don't have to chew on my left side. Maybe I'll drop a couple of pounds. Always looking for the silver lining.

veet
i admit it....i hate to shave my legs. the last time i shaved them was the very end of June when we went out to IN to visit Chris and Jenny. since then i've let them grow wild and wooly. but i had a dr's appt today and i knew he would need to check my reflexes etc.
i purchased the veet mousse and used it this morning. two months of hair was just magically wiped away. no razors or shaving cream. no standing on one foot in the shower (which for me can be difficult since i have very bad balance!)
obviously this was made for just such lazy women as myself!!! i love finding new things that make my life easier.

it's football season
Once again football season is upon us. My friend Suzanne from Dyer and I are doing our football picks every week. She is a Jets fan and had an unhappy opening day. I'm sure they will recover. We are Giants fans at our house and were over the moon with the Giants performance. Let's hope they can keep it up all season.
The one bad thing about football is the that the Sunday night games are broadcast on ESPN and we have to listen to the blatherings of Joe Theisman all night. I recognize that he is very knowledgeable about the great game of football but I iwish he would just shut the hell up!!!! If I hear one more time about his "personal experience".......
In other sports related news, I finally watched the movie "The Natural" with Robert Redford. WHY haven't I seen this movie before!?! It was excellent. The story kept me riveted. I think I'm falling a little in love with Robert Redford! Kim Basinger was dreadful. I can't believe that years later the Academy gave her an Oscar. I guess she must have improved with age. I also saw Mr. Bean - The Movie. I have enjoyed Rowan Atkinson as the Black Adder for years. Mr. Bean while also funny is a bit too juvenile for my taste. These movies were on my Netflix queue. Next up on the queue....."To Dance with the White Dog" with husband and wife team of Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy and "Waiting for Guffman" a Christopher Guest movie. I've seen Spinal Tap and Best In Show and A Mighty Wind. I hope this one will be just as good as those.

Learn something new everyday
Lhermitte's Sign - So-called Barber Chair phenomenon. Flexing of the neck produces electric shock-like sensations that extend down the spine and and shoot into the limbs. Caused by trauma to the cervical portion of the spinal cord, MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS, cervical cord tumor, cervical spondylosis or even vitamin B12 deficiency.
I have had this for months and didn't know what it was. I just thought it was part of the MS. I didn't know it had a name!!

What I did on my summer vacation
Quite an eventful summer for me. My job at B.W. Dyer came to an end after 6 years. The office moved to Colorado. It was a painful parting but yet I know that another year there and I would have been fried. The job was killing me.
The end of June my sister-in-law had her first baby, a boy named Alex. We went to out to IN to meet him. Took the mother-in-law. Should have got a commendation for bravery above and beyond the call of duty. Alex is a dear baby.
I took the entire month of July off. First time since 1999 that I have been without work. It was a luxury. I went to Vermont to visit my sister and her brood. Jason, Phoebe and Verna Mavis (we are getting adjusted to the name). I spent a week in the mountains doing aunt duty.
Following the trip to Vermont I came home and just took it easy. Caught up on some reading, made a dent in my Netflix queue and generally had myself a true vacation.
I started a new job August 1st with a company that was a customer when I was at Dyer. The job is slower paced, which is just what I need right now.
Over Labor Day weekend, my sister-in-law, known hereafter as Jenny, her husband Chris and baby Alex made the journey out to NJ. We spent the weekend attending various Bergman Family Functions, including Gma and Gpa Bergman's 60th wedding anniversary celebration. They are an amazing couple.
Now I am fully immersed in planning my 15-year high school reunion. Things are progressing very nicely. My fingers are crossed that the reunion will turn out as planned.
