I was greeted with this email when I came into work this morning:
Jennifer,
Internet use during business hours is for COMPANY use only.
You are free to use the internet after hours for personal use.
This is the last time I want to discuss this with you. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thanks
So until I get my laptop back, I am seriously limited in my email/blogging. Don't do anything too interesting while I'm gone.

Ouch! I got one of those once when I was working. Hope you get your laptop back soon!
But, I am wondering... What if I were to blog about what your business is??? I would do it for you, you know... All professional like. It could be a code for really cool things.
EEP!!!
Hang in there- hope your laptop is back soon!
Ouch!
Did you email back asking why your manager didn't have better and more important things to do other than monitor your internet use????
Sheesh. I'd like to see a log of that person's internet use. I'm betting there's a stray email check on occasion.
Lighten up.
My employer has begun blocking sites, such as blogger, ebay, craigslist, ning, etc.
The bad thing is our communications department has been promoting and encouraging leadership to use blogs for internal and external use.
Make up your minds.
I've decided I am going to start smoking. Those folks get their 15 mins twice a day.
I had a manager once who sent out emails to people in the office (I was an employee who was always traveling so they couldn't zing me) of this nature but the funny thing was the manager was always really guilty of personal email time themselves. It irks me. I'm not saying that people should go wild but there has to be legitimate lee-way.
I hope I never get one of those emails. :-\
For all it's little irritations, I'm fortunate enough to have employers who don't care if I surf the web while at work. As long as my work is done, they're happy.

Oh, ouch. This has never happened to me but I think they're recently started monitoring more closely. It used to be that people stood around the water cooler and chatted... now we surf the net. Same difference, right?
