Yesterday my friend Robbie told me a sad, sad tale about her cat, a suitcase and feline incontinence.
Yes folks…her cat peed in her suitcase. Her PACKED suitcase.
Why did her cat do such a thing? Ours is not to question why cats do anything. Ours is merely to clean up the mess.
Robbie asked me how to clean the suitcase.
My response?
Throw it out. Toss it. Eighty-six it.
Buy a new suitcase. And turn the peed in one into a litter box. Because that is all it’s good for now.
But perhaps I’m being too hasty?
What do you think? Is it possible to save the suitcase? She says it’s Samsonite. Part of a set. The biggest one.
Any and all suggestions will be taken under advisement.

Isn't there a spray product called "URINE (BE) GONE" or something like that? Try that before trashing the suitcase. I wonder if the cat has been peeing out of the litterbox lately, worth investigating that.
Cat urine is the MOST difficult to get rid of. I used to have some success with scrubing baking soda and water mixed together over the offending area, letting it sit overnight and then washing it out. Unfortunatley, this is cats marking their territory and, in theory, that is supposed to last forever....
She could try an enzyme spray, but I usually take the lazy way out and toss the offending item.
Odoban is good.
But I would trash the suitcase. Even if you think the smell is gone, is it really? REALLY? Next thing you know, she will be on a beautiful trip to Tahiti, and as she is sitting on the beach, enjoying the hot sun, the smell of cat piss wafts up into her face and the faces of all those around her.
It's not worth the possibility of losing a cabana boy. It's just not.
oh so nasty ... I think her cat was protesting the upcoming trip.
Eh, it's CAT PEE; I don't there's any salvation to be had.
Yeah, I'm with the toss it out crowd...Like Betsy said, I would rather replace one suitcase than worry about losing that cabana boy...
Have her check her local pet store -- most sell some kind of "odor be gone" product in a spray bottle. We've had good luck with that, but we've never used it on a suitcase before.
If she has a black light, she can wave it over the suitcase and it will show her if there's any urine spots still on it.
Suitcases are expensive, and I feel her pain. She should try everything she can to salvage it, but if the smell remains, then yeah, unfortunately she's going to have to toss it. The smell only gets worse with time.
I don't know about the suitcase...maybe she should toss the cat?
